>the voices< is the debut 12 inch from bobby and annie. drawing on their experiences as residents at the mint club, uk, the pair have crafted a versatile ep that sits as comfortably in a peak time set as it does on a hazy 6am dance floor. taken from a collection of vocal out-takes the voices have been cleverly obscured through various production techniques and layered around drums and old school analogue synth lines to unique effect. the results are two haunting, hypnotic, yet upbeat dj tools. the title track, >voices<, uses deftly interwoven vocal samples as the focus and driving hook. shuffled percussion takes a back seat amidst a discordant, attention-grabbing synth interlude that harks back to the playful garage sound of90s chicago house. the outcome is dramatic, intense and functional. on the b-side, >loose ends<, is a more rugged affair that gives the bass and drums centre stage. the vocals are pitched and trippily float in and out of the track whilst the familiar sound of fairlight stabs punctuate the groove. the effect is eerie, yet accessible, and rounds off this stunning ep.

marc feind was born in scotland and raised in germany. he was influenced by punk, kraftwerk and funk. as a dj he played chicago house and played siegessäule at love parade. his cover version of the german punk band extrabreit is a mixture of electro/punk, house and break beat. the ep comes with two mixes and traxx by stereo jack and two anonymous techno big name djs/producers.

after his highly inspiring releases on detroits mathematicsa, quintessentials (uk) and yore (germany), marcello napoletano is back with another adventure into house music. again his unique way of keeping a detroit / chicago sound freshly alive comes neither from the beloved ghost town nor from windy city - marcello napoletanos source of deep madness is based in lecce, a small countrysided village in italy. from here he spreads his deepness all over the world, representing the 8th outstanding issue of laid records.

when being into collecting records for more then 20-25 years there is not much left that can be considered the holy grail of house music... so we wont call this a holy grail. however for us its a track which was impossible to find because it was simply not released! only a hand full white labels on dj international have been floating around, but it never got a proper release. finally we managed to get the rights and more important a proper old recording of sterling voids instrumental version of serve it up. his first ever recording done in chicago, 1987!

a first collection of on this new us label that is dedicated to bring contemporary edge by up-and-coming producers from chicago: garo, lokua, slava. and thats what they do here. a sweet collection of 7 solid tracks. given the locale, there is an undeniable house presence. its spirit spreads far and wide and permeates a great variety of styles of both slower and faster tempos. this album is as much for the club as it is for the tranquil home-listening environment, the deep synthesizer textures, ever-changing rhythms and rich melodic content will speak to you independent of setting. limited and well produced release! check!

leave it up to nyc label on the prowl to score some authentic yet modern day latin freestlyle. hot latina corinne croons about love and nightlife while her partner brooklyn producer josh anzano does the dirty work. the result is a heart felt dancefloor banger that will sure to be thumping out of car trunks this summer. for this single we get the original, a dub mix which nods to 80s style tape edits, and of course the mighty runaway bomb of a remix. runaway takes the vocals and lays them across a hands in the air chicago-esque drum machine groove spiced with live bass and speaker blaring pads. very big indeed!
